This family-owned company is famed throughout the Cotswolds for the superb quality of its meat and other products. With head office and state-of-the-art wholesale preparation facility in the town of Cirencester, it boasts a string of butcher’s shops around the Cotswolds: in the heart of Cirencester (plus a farm shop in Cirencester’s Love Lane), Elkstone, Tetbury, Burford and Northleach, along with a production kitchen and catering unit. From humble beginnings with a handful of devoted customers, this family business now collaborates with many of the best local chefs and restaurateurs. Throughout the decades, the family has been dedicated to uncompromising commitment to provenance, fair trade, and quality. Jesse Smith and WJ Castle is run and owned by the Hawes family. As they expanded trade, they bought the existing butcher shops in Burford and Northleach - WJ Castle - in the 1970s, and later that decade also took over Jesse Smith Butchers in Black Jack Street, Cirencester. A butcher’s shop has been on this particular site since 1808.
